This historic Newport hotel dating back to 1926 is conveniently located 5 minutes’ walk to Thames Street, and less than 1 mile from the Cliff Walk to the city’s historic mansions. Though some upgrades have been made, the rooms are tired and lack amenities due to Covid. The front desk staff is accommodating but run off their feet, and the hotel offers bike rentals and a gym with Peloton bikes. The coffee shop is great. Unfortunately, the rooms are not worth the $800 a night price tag, with worn furniture, a small and dirty bathroom, and no minibar or closet. Breakfast and dinner service is painfully slow, and towels and sheets are only provided after the third night. The AC is noisy and guests should expect loud wedding and bachelorette parties. The only free service provided is a small bottle of water.

The rooms are stylish and comfortable, and come with a token for free basic coffee or tea. Unfortunately, the air control in the room was cold, and we had to request a microwave and a heater. Self-parking is available for $25 overnight, and the housekeeping staff was great. For those looking for a unique experience, there are even rumors of the hotel being haunted. While this hotel may lack some amenities, it is an excellent spot for exploring Providence and its surrounding areas, for a reasonable price.
