The Gables is a family-run bed and breakfast set in a charming Victorian villa, once a vicarage, surrounded by 2 acres of gardens in the Cheviot Hills of Northumberland. Our stay was truly remarkable. Our room was large and airy, with a 160 year old Italian bed, antique furniture and a modern bathroom with both bath and shower. Angus, the owner, was warm and welcoming and provided us with a delicious cooked breakfast every morning. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge on the local area, giving us invaluable tips on where to go and where to eat. We had access to the large lounge and 2 acre garden, which we made full use of. We can't recommend a stay at The Gables highly enough - the house, the food, the location, and the host all made for a truly special experience.

Our hosts were really kind, friendly and helpful, giving great suggestions about visiting nearby places and telling us about a lovely riverside walk. The rooms were immaculate, with art work based on the cycling theme, and the ensuite was super clean with a powerful shower. Guests can also make use of the guest lounge with TV and reading materials, and relax in the lovely garden with a cup of tea. Wifi is good and there are secure garages for bikes. Norham itself has nice riverside walks, ruined castle and links to Turner's landscape paintings. There is pub, butchers, bakers and a small 'corner' shop for convenience. We would not hesitate to recommend Norham Bike Yard to non-cyclists like ourselves.
