During lockdown, the staff went out of their way to ensure guests needs were met, while the chef's prepared their own sauces and menus with food sourced locally. Hotel du Vin Exeter is an impressive building with a luxurious outdoor pool open all year round. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom with luxury toiletries and a monsoon shower, and some have a bath. Free WiFi and a bar are available as well as a 24-hour front desk. Despite staff being polite, service was farcically bad. The pool was closed for refurbishment which was not clear on the booking site. The dinner menu was unexciting and pricey, however the wine menu was extensive. The room was not as clean as we would have expected, and we were woken up by noisy water pipes and had to pay for all day parking in the car park opposite the hotel. Despite these issues, the staff were helpful and friendly.
