Set in Aberfoyle, Macdonald Forest Hills Resort offers a fitness centre, all rooms with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom. Although the communal facilities are great, the condition and state of the apartments are a let-down. Guests need to carry their own toiletries and check the appliances before booking, as the kitchen is outdated and the dishwasher and fridge may not be working. The living area, kitchen and passage may also have an unpleasant smell, and the bathrooms lack mixers for the wash basins. Thankfully, the General Manager is aware of these issues and is willing to provide refunds for unsatisfactory accommodations. The resort is also close to water sports, Go Ape, shops, and a lovely town. With some renovations, Macdonald Forest Hills Resort has the potential to be one of the best places to stay in Scotland.

The rooms are big and clean, with a partial view of the loch, and the hotel gardens are stunning. The food and drinks are a bit pricey, but the breakfast and dinner options are plentiful. The staff are professional, polite, and accommodating. It's a great place to relax, enjoy the views, and take advantage of the activities. However, be aware that there are restrictions on alcohol, and coffee is not available until 2pm.
