Set in 17 acres of picturesque Lancashire parkland, the 4-star Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa is a 700-year old country manor. Boasting an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant and spacious and comfortable bedrooms, it is the ideal setting for a romantic getaway or family holiday. The grounds and the setting are lovely, but unfortunately, there were a few issues with the visit, including limited staff on the bar, dust and cobwebs in the rooms and limited access to the grounds. However, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was good, with plenty of hot cooked breakfast, pastries and cereals. Although the hotel was not able to meet all of expectations, it is still a great place to escape for a luxurious break.

The Old Mill Hotel is a tranquil, picturesque former mill in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, situated with stunning views of the Rossendale Valley. Our family has stayed here many times, but due to current restrictions, we found it difficult to manage our son with autism and my nana in her 80s. Despite the friendly staff, timings were hard to manage, and the room was dangerous with no safety handles or signage. The shower head and handle were loose, and the room was not serviced during the stay. We felt the whole accommodation needs to be inspected for health and safety, before any serious injuries may occur.

It is within easy walking distance to local shops and cafes, and only 1.8 km from St Annes Beach. The kitchen is compact but has all the essential items and a bonus under-counter fridge with a freezer section. There is a good selection of drink glasses and crockery, as well as a coffee machine and tea selection. The apartment is pet-friendly and has a pleasant garden. The internet connection is very good, and there are some nice touches such as biscuits, condiments and sauces, and toiletries in the bathroom. Host Kerry is friendly and accommodating. A great place for couples or those travelling with pets. Highly recommended.
